An underground ambient artist.
Viktor Benev is a Bulgarian musician and a story-teller. He develops a unique approach to music-making, whose foundations are based on conveying emotional states or fictional scenarios through atmospheric immersive soundscapes or what he generally refers to as "sonic fiction". His body of work explicitly displays a wide range of interests in music genre, song-writing and compositional techniques, including the usage of multiple acoustic instruments (vibraphone, drums, percussion, piano, guitar), lyrics, sampling, field recordings and electronic elements. Having nominations for the Independent Music Awards (2020) and for the Paris Lift-Off Film Festival (2024), he has written and produced music for conventional and experimental multi-disciplinary ensembles, choreographers and visual artists installations. Based in Paris for now more than a decade, Viktor Benev has become one of the French capital's most sought-after accompanists for jazz and contemporary dance. He has worked with choreographers and educators such as Peter Goss, Christine Gerard, Patricia Greenwood Karagozian, Marcel Gbeffa, Yorick Grand, Julien Desplantez. Alongside his own releases, Viktor Benev works extensively as part of Crystal Sound Project and has performed and/or collaborated with artists such as Milcho Leviev, Hristo Yotsov, Jean Paul Celea, Selma Savolainen, Åsa Öhrn, Artem Naumenko, Wladigeroff Brothers and others.
Viktor Benev creates immersive ambient electronic soundscapes and narrative-driven sonic fiction, blending acoustic instruments like vibraphone and piano with experimental production.
