An underground indie pop artist.
Virginia Marcs went from Madonna-obsessed adolescent to opera singer, then to swingin’ jazz standard siren and band leader. Nothing fit ‘til she received her guitar—a gift of permission. Known for her emotionally exhilarating vocals and raw storytelling, fans compare her indie-pop music to Kate Bush, Daughter, Mitski, and Tori Amos. Buoyed by her first press recognition in 2016 by Idlewild Magazine, Virginia was inspired to record and release her debut record, Climbing the Wall, produced by Katie Buchanan, in 2017. The record was heralded in Times Ledger and BORO Magazine. Highway 81 Revisited premiered Marcs’ next project, dynamic and hopeful track, “I Need You,” described by Emerging Indie Bands as “ ... intricate melodies and immersive vocal … leaving the audience immediately desirous of more.” The music video, directed by MTV VMA-winning editor, Alexander Hammer, premiered in February 2019. That December, Downtown Magazine NYC featured Virginia Marcs as “a force to be reckoned with in her stunning, unsettling new release, Wild." In 2020, Virginia’s song “You Were Right” was heard in Amy Schumer’s Expecting Amy on HBO Max. Marcs’ latest matchup with Hammer and Buchanan, “This Time,” premiered on September 16, 2022. This vulnerable and triumphant video was the first single off her forthcoming EP Reckoning, which is slated for an April 2026 release.
