Music has always been a huge part of my life. I started formal music lessons at the age of 12, picking up the trumpet initially, then playing the drums. My father played trumpet so that inspired me for sure. In high school I played clarinet. Eventually I gravitated to the saxophone, and I knew I found my instrument. Today my primary instrument is the tenor saxophone, but I also play soprano, alto and EWI. My style has been described as a smooth and silky sound with a Jazz and R&B feel. I grew up in New York City, specifically The Bronx and Harlem where I was steeped in the rich multicultural sounds of Jazz, R&B, Latin and Caribbean music. I was fortunate to be able to study music with trailblazing musicians at Jazzmobile for many years. I was able to hone my craft with outstanding mentors and inspiring musical giants like Hank Crawford and Grover Washington, Jr. I hope when you listen to my music you can feel the joy, passion, and the love! I am also extremely grateful for the supporters of my music. Some have been there for decades, and some are more recent. I appreciate every one of you! Spread love! Spread joy! Spread hope! One Love, Von Stupart
