An underground bedroom pop artist.
21-year-old singer-songwriter, dancer, and actor Zaida Rio began creating music at the age of 3 through writing about the sun, moon, and falling in love. However, things became serious when she joined her high school’s Songwriter’s Club and discovered catharsis in songwriting. Zaida launched her debut single “Drive” on all music platforms in 2020, followed by her first album “Leaving” in 2022. She is currently a sophomore at Yale University signed to their student-run record label, 17o1 Records. Having started gigging at her local coffee shop of Hastings Tea in White Plains, NY, Zaida has gone on to perform throughout the New York Tri State area from Brandy Melville, the Nuyorican Poets Café, the Palisades Mall, Art Cafe Nyack, G Cafe Bakery in New Haven, and around Yale’s campus. Zaida paints heartbreak, “f*** you”, and self-redemption into her lyrics, fusing together elements of bedroom pop, latin pop, r&b, and indie folk. She hopes that her music may provide listeners with the same healing experience it gives her. Zaida is supported by a family of singer-songwriters (Ivan Polanco and Evening Son). She is also inspired by artists like Beabadoobee, Eloise, and Lianne La Havas.
Zaida Rio blends bedroom pop, Latin pop, R&B, and indie folk, often exploring themes of heartbreak and self-redemption in her lyrics.
