The Mingus Big Band exclusively performs the compositions of the renowned American bassist and composer Charles Mingus. Established by Sue Mingus, this 14-piece ensemble brings to life large-band arrangements that Mingus envisioned. The group's dynamic structure fosters deep exploration and evolving interpretations of his repertoire, providing a platform for individual artistic expression akin to Mingus’ original Jazz Workshop projects. Featuring a rotating lineup of New York City’s finest musicians, the Mingus Big Band is recognized for its creativity and spontaneity. The ensemble has received seven Grammy nominations and won in 2011 for Live at Jazz Standard. They continue their legacy with the long-standing Mingus Mondays residency.
