Jorge Drexler
Jorge Drexler is an Academy Award-winning musician, actor, and medical doctor from Uruguay known for his unique blend of Latin Pop that integrates elements from milonga to electronica. Born in Montevideo in 1964, he developed a passion for music early on, taking piano and guitar lessons while later pursuing a career in otolaryngology. After moving to Spain upon an invitation from Joaquin Sabina, he released several acclaimed albums through labels like Virgin and Dro. His 2010 release, Amar la Trama, reached the top 5 on the Spanish charts and received four Grammy nominations. Drexler gained international fame for composing 'Al Otro lado del Rio' for the film The Motorcycle Diaries, which earned him the first Academy Award for Best Original Song by a Uruguayan artist.
