Samudra Ensemble: India Baroque
A nostalgic, underground baroque night.
The intercultural ensemble Samudra presents a unique concert dialogue that artisticly blends Baroque repertoire with the rhythmic subtleties of classical Indian music. Formed in Berlin in 2024, the ensemble explores relationships between historical Western and Asian-Indian traditions, performing as a trio of baroque violin, baroque cello, and tabla. The India Baroque program features works by Marin Marais, Johann Paul von Westhoff, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Arcangelo Corelli, alongside new compositions. The performance emphasizes historically informed practice and acoustic arrangements, playfuly transcending cultural boundaries through a sound concept that bridges Western early music and Indian rhythmic expertise.
