A homegrown, underground indie rock night.
Banji is a DIY project led by Popeye, a veteran of the CBGB punk scene, a former Times Square performer, and a known fixture in the Lower East Side who contributed to Choking Victim’s 'Crack Rock Steady.' The project draws from a wide palette of sounds including dance, new wave, art pop, worldbeat, and avant-funk.
Banji performs at Shrine, located at 2271 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd in Harlem.
The project is spearheaded by Popeye, a veteran of the CBGB punk scene and former Choking Victim contributor.
