Barbers meeslepende Adagio for Strings roept een universeel gevoel van verdriet, schoonheid en hoop op. In Agnus Dei, zijn latere bewerking voor koor, wordt dit versterkt. De versie voor koor én strijkers, uitgevoerd door Amsterdam Sinfonietta en het Britse vocaal ensemble VOCES8 zal dan ook niemand onberoerd laten. Ook The Lark Ascending, het hemelse lied van de leeuwerik, reikt tot nog grotere hoogten in de speciale bewerking voor soloviool, strijkers en koor. Meer vogels laten van zich horen in Bibers speelse imitaties van de nachtegaal en de koekoek, in Elgars mysterieuze Owls, of vallen juist stil in Tins The Saddest Noise. In dit concert waar de natuur centraal staat, hoor je muziek van de middeleeuwse mystica Hildegard von Bingen tot een nieuw werk van Mathilde Wantenaar.
