Mingus Big Band
A nostalgic, raw big band night.
The Mingus Big Band performs exclusively the music of the celebrated American composer, bassist, and activist Charles Mingus. Created by Sue Mingus, this 14-piece ensemble features arrangements of Mingus compositions in a large band format, providing a platform for deep exploration and artistic expression in the spirit of the Jazz Workshop. The group draws from a rotating pool of New York City's top established and emerging musicians. Nominated for seven GRAMMY Awards, including a win in 2011, the band continues its legacy with the legendary Mingus Mondays residency at The Pocket, offering a weekly showcase of creative and spontaneous jazz performance in the heart of NYC.
