Tyn Wybenga's Brainteaser Orchestra
Composer and bandleader Tyn Wybenga seamlessly transitions between the worlds of jazz and electronics. In his music, classical, hip-hop, and jazz converge, creating a sound reminiscent of Stravinsky, Frank Zappa, and J Dilla. His Brainteaser Orchestra (formerly AM.OK) represents a new generation that transcends traditional boundaries. The ensemble's compositions are created using the "Brainteaser method," where live improvisations by band members and guest soloists are recorded, chopped into hundreds of samples, and restructured into new pieces. Wybenga plays his orchestra like an instrument, guided by an adventurous spirit. Their debut album, Brainteaser, won the German Jazz Prize for 'Best International Debut Album' in 2022. The performance features their new work, Tonepool Paradox, showcasing a mix of live electronics, improvisations, and mesmerizing soundscapes played by top-tier Dutch jazz musicians.
