In the Great Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie, the first powerful chords of 'O Fortuna' resound as Carl Orff's 'Carmina Burana' takes the stage. Part of the '125 Years of the Berlin Choir Association' anniversary, this large-scale musical project showcases the strength and diversity of Berlin's choral scene. The performance features an enormous musical range, from fateful choral passages to delicate, dance-like, and humorous moments. Based on medieval texts from the Benediktbeuern monastery, the 1937 masterpiece explores the circular nature of life, longing, passion, and the unpredictability of fate through rhythmic energy and elemental expressive power. A monumental ensemble of around 300 singers from various local choirs, accompanied by a large orchestra, fills the hall with archaic and emotionally stirring soundscapes.
