Bach, Beethoven, Florence Price
The Kanneh-Mason family is like a perpetual fountain of talent, never running dry. With cellist Sheku and pianist Isata having already blossomed into accomplished soloists, their younger sister Jeneba is now stepping into her own light. The Kanneh-Masons, since their 2015 emergence on Britain’s Got Talent, have resoundingly demonstrated that their brilliance is no mere flash in the pan. Jeneba Kanneh-Mason’s debut album, Fantasie, is fresh off the press. This afternoon, she performs work by the American composer Florence Price and a knockout Beethoven sonata. The seven Kanneh-Mason brothers and sisters, hailing from a British family with roots in Antigua and Sierra Leone, have individually won awards and also perform together. Jeneba, in her early twenties and the fifth sibling, has earned widespread acclaim and won awards for her soulful renditions of a varied repertoire. Florence Price’s virtuosic Fantasie nègre, also on Jeneba’s album, exemplifies her imaginative spirit and concentrated energy. Outdoor concert This Terrace Concert is an outdoor event. The sun can be intense and the wind can be quite strong near the water, so come prepared. In the event of unfavourable weather conditions, the performance will be held indoors in the Entrance Hall, which overlooks the river IJ.
