Composé en 1917, ce ballet-opéra de chambre emprunte au cirque ambulant et au jazz, s'éloignant des fastes ballets de l'époque. Lambert Wilson y incarne les trois rôles principaux — le soldat, le diable et le narrateur — accompagné par le Lemanic Modern Ensemble pour interpréter une variété de styles allant du tango au ragtime.
