April Harper Grey, the Filipino-American artist behind underscores, began creating music in her San Francisco bedroom during middle school. After building a following on SoundCloud, her debut album fishmonger was recorded in that same childhood room during the pandemic. The project has since evolved from solitary recordings to major performances, including a US tour supporting 100 gecs and appearances at festivals like Lollapalooza and Electric Forest. Now signed to Mom+Pop, underscores continues to produce adventurous and genre-defying music, characterized by a mix of stylistic eccentricity and emotional depth.
