Emmanuelle Bastet's new production of Bizet's Carmen, created in collaboration with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, returns to the psychological roots of the story. Set in Seville, this production focuses on the sensory experience—the heat, dust, and tension—while exploring the intense dynamics between Carmen and Don José. This modern interpretation of the classic opera depicts passion not as a sublime force, but as a devastating one. This production features sessions with audio description for visually impaired audiences and is also captured for television broadcast.
