About

A deeply religious request for forgiveness set in beautiful choral music. This is Arvo Pärt's Kanon pokajanen. For non-believers, the work serves as a hallucinatory meditation lasting nearly an hour and a half. Following the highly successful performance by Cappella Amsterdam a few years ago, the Latvian Radio Choir now presents this masterpiece. It is almost impossible to get closer to the spiritual world of Pärt. Arvo Pärt completed his Kanon pokajanen in 1997 for the 750th anniversary of Cologne Cathedral. Pärt based the work on the full hymn of repentance from Eastern Orthodox liturgy. While he had used parts of this hymn in earlier compositions, setting the entire text was an extremely enriching experience for the composer.
