The Brazilian group Azymuth achieved global recognition in the 1970s and 1980s by pioneering a unique blend of jazz, rock, and funk, famously creating the genre known as Samba Doido. After a period of quiet in the early 90s, the band was rediscovered by London's acid jazz scene, influencing a new generation of musicians and producers from MF Doom to Flying Lotus. Despite the passing of founding members José Roberto Bertrami and Ivan Conti, original bassist Alex Malheiros continues the band's legacy, which now spans over half a century of musical innovation.
