Er broeit iets in Glasgow. De Schotse stad is de afgelopen jaren uitgegroeid tot een echte hotspot voor jazz, met corto.alto als een van de meest overtuigende bewijzen. De groep rond componist en multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall creëert hypnotiserende keyboardlagen en combineert invloeden van jazz, hiphop en elektronica. Na hun optreden op North Sea Jazz presenteert de band hun nieuwe album Some Small Fortune (Ninja Tune). Hun geluid, live versterkt door een collectief van getalenteerde muzikanten, wordt vergeleken met Ezra Collective en Hiatus Kaiyote. Shortall zelf wisselt op het podium moeiteloos tussen gitaar, bas en trombone.
