Open Mic & VOKU
An underground, homegrown forro night.
An inclusive monthly open mic gathering at NieuwLand focusing on Brazilian genres like Forró, Choro, Samba, and Bossa Nova. The evening is open to anyone wishing to share music, songs, or poetry in a supportive and relaxed atmosphere. A small core group of musicians helps open the session, which then unfolds organically with contributions from attendees. A vegan, donation-based dinner (VOKU) prepared by volunteers is available starting from 18:00, allowing guests to eat together before the performances begin. The event is non-commercial and volunteer-run, maintaining a space for solidarity and cultural exchange in Amsterdam Oost.
