George Enescu International Competition
A homegrown, nostalgic contemporary classical night.
The opening concert of the 2026 George Enescu International Competition features the Romanian Radio National Orchestra under the baton of Cristian Măcelaru. The evening showcases a prestigious program including George Enescu's Symphony No. 1 and Dan Dediu's Brahmsodia, a triple concerto. The performance features esteemed soloists and winners of the 2024 competition, Mayumi Kanagawa, Yo Kitamura, and Roman Lopatynskyi. The event also includes the award ceremony for the Composition Section and the performance of Diego Santamaria's prize-winning work, The Stone and the Ivy. Audiences can expect a formal atmosphere with an intermission during the three-and-a-half-hour program at the historic Romanian Athenaeum.
