Grachtenfestival: Beethoven 5 km
An open-air, homegrown classical night.
The Grachtenfestival Ensemble 2026 presents a unique adaptation of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony specifically designed for a five-kilometer walking route through Amsterdam’s Flevopark. This performance features a specialized instrumentation of clarinet, trombone, accordion, percussion, violin, cello, and double bass, allowing the iconic symphony to be experienced in an unconventional outdoor setting. The Grachtenfestival Ensemble 2026 is a group of young musicians selected through an open call in partnership with the Musical Instrument Fund. This summer residency focuses on developing fresh repertoire and experimental concert formats for unexpected urban locations. Following this park performance, the ensemble is scheduled to appear at the Hortus Botanicus later in the festival. While the music can be heard for free from the sidelines, participants who wish to walk or run the designated 5-kilometer musical route require a ticket.
