Saskia Rao-de Haas is a pioneer who introduced the cello to Indian music. Her instrument is specially constructed to suit the authentic Indian tradition. Together with her husband, sitar player Shubhendra Rao—a disciple of the legendary Ravi Shankar—she forms an internationally acclaimed duo. Their performance blends classical cello techniques with deep-rooted Indian musical traditions, creating a sound described as rich and orchestral.
