Pianist and composer Nduduzo Makhathini is a leading figure of the vibrant South African jazz scene. Recognized for his work with Shabaka Hutchings and signed to the legendary Blue Note label since 2020, he has emerged as a major revelation on the international music stage. Influenced by the lyricism of McCoy Tyner and the ritualistic traditions of Zulu music, his style was endorsed by the late Bheki Mseleku. Leading a remarkably cohesive trio, Makhathini creates jazz that is simultaneously melodic, rhythmic, sensual, and spiritual, deeply rooted in South African culture while remaining open to contemporary global influences.
