Banksia Trio
Het Banksia Trio is vernoemd naar een Australische plant die bloeit onder extreme omstandigheden en zelfs floreert door verbranding. Het karakteriseert enerzijds het krachtige spel en anderzijds de lyrische muzikale schoonheid van dit trio, waarin drie van de meest gevraagde jazzmusici van Tokyo zich verenigd hebben. Oprichter Takashi Sugawa speelt contrabas, met een achtergrond in de klassieke cello die goed hoorbaar is in zijn spel. Pianist Masaki Hayashi beweegt zich moeiteloos tussen akoestische jazz en filmmuziek. Meesterdrummer Shun Ishiwaka staat aan de top van de Japanse jazz en werkte samen met internationale grootheden als Kurt Rosenwinkel en Jason Moran.
