Ethiopian jazz, or Ethio-jazz, emerged in the 1960s Addis Ababa scene, pioneered largely by musician Mulatu Astatke who fused traditional Ethiopian five-tone pentatonic modes with American jazz and Latin soul. The just announced ethiopian jazz events in Amsterdam this week.
