Pride in Rotterdam

Rotterdam Pride Week spreads over about ten days in the second half of September, with the Pride March on the final Saturday. The march is a walk, not a float parade: around 3.5 kilometres from Stationsplein, with speeches before the start, for equality, visibility and acceptance. The week closes with a festival at the foot of the Erasmus Bridge, with performances and DJ sets, and the bridge itself - the city's most recognisable landmark - is lit in rainbow colours over Pride weekend.

The autumn date is not a detail: it means Rotterdam's Pride does not compete with Amsterdam in August or Utrecht, and that it happens once the city is back to its normal rhythm, with its own people rather than summer tourists. That gives it a more local character. Rotterdam is a port city of modern architecture, rebuilt after the war, and its queer scene runs year-round in venues around the centre. The list here shows LGBTQ+ friendly events as a whole and not only Pride week. For anyone following Europe's Prides through the year, Rotterdam is usually the last stop - and for the city itself, the week lands just as the students are back and the nights fill up again.
