30’ in - I can’t believe someone released this theatrically.45’ in - the confrontation between father and daughter is borderline experimental. I wish I could watch this with friends so we could laugh together but I’m watching this in a cinema with two strangers and wondering if I can make it through to the end.55’ in - Please don’t follow the music… please… Hot diggity dawg! She did it! 60’ in - What the f*ck! This is garbage. How is the bigoted Chinese joke and the dog eating joke not cut??? Feelgood should have vetoed this. 75’ in - I’m very very worried that I’m losing my mind.85’ - Yes, we too watched lost in translation and liked it. 90’ - The film is giving up - technical problems now being left in and the director didn’t cut the pointless scene that includes his cameo. 100’ - The Vienna section was filmed partly on a phone. Not in a brave kind of way either. —————— The first scene is the best part of the film and showcases a good understanding of pacing, tension and dramatic irony. Unfortunately, that’s it in terms of praise. The most obvious, indifferent and sometimes plain wrong score made a serious dent in the films credibility. Here is a big mystery: Why are the highlights all blown out? It looks like it was shot on a handy-cam but it says shot on Alexa in the end. I’m so confused as to how this cheap look was achieved. — Ok, just avoid folks, this is… there is nothing you can take from this film… it’s a passion project, a self-financed nostalgia quest. If you’re reading this Vasili, I hope you don’t give up. I know this is the hardest thing you’ve ever done and It’s an achievement of some sort, but your film will serve as a prime example of why we make shorts first.
