probably the best opening credits scene ever
finally had that feeling i'm searching for every time i go to the movies: that tugging in your chest that signals you're watching something special, a new favorite; every scene, every frame is exactly what you were hoping for and more. WOW it feels good to fall head over heels for a new film again!in his follow up to the meticulously gorgeous Columbus, Kogonada breaks down the barriers of the traditional nuclear household, positing that true family isn't conjured from blood, but bond. the dynamics of interracial families aren't too often explored in mainstream film, despite the fact that the subject is ripe for artistic dissection—i wonder how my own upbringing would've been reshaped if i had an older brother like Yang to help me understand my Korean heritage, to reassure me that it's okay to feel different, and that that difference is what makes us special. and that's just one of the many themes that hit home! grief, love, memory, technology, and music (MITSKI?!) all intertwine to form a truly one-of-a-kind sci-fi portrait of what the families of the future will look like: simultaneously familiar and unfamiliar. would've spent the whole runtime sobbing if i weren't crammed on a couch between three friends—excited to see this again in theaters so i can cry as much as i want to during the tree grafting scene (and when Colin Farrell takes his shirt off) 💚
