This beautiful nonfiction essay by the highly versatile, aesthetically inspired Sergei Loznitsa portrays mid-winter life in a remote coastal village. Focusing on fishermen digging through frozen waters to lay their nets, the documentary aspects are interesting enough (a study of quotidian resilience and determination in the frozen North), but it's Loznitsa's poetic sensibility that makes this thirty-minute meditation so captivating.
