I can finally talk about COYOTE vs. ACME. After the long wait and the fight to get this film released, I can happily say it was worth it. Samy Burch’s screenplay is incredibly smart in its legal courtroom premise, seamlessly incorporating the iconic Looney Tunes characters while deepening our appreciation for them. The way it re-frames Wile E. Coyote as the embodiment of perseverance in the face of failure (especially when you’re up against something as intimidating as a massive corporation) is both clever and surprisingly heartfelt. The live-action/animation hybrid is well executed, capturing the same spirit that made films like “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” and “Space Jam” so memorable for my generation. Everyone involved understands exactly the tone the film is aiming for, and it’s all in service of a story that’s consistently funny, charming, and emotionally satisfying. An all-around crowd-pleaser that serves as a wonderful reminder of just how great this material can be when it’s in the right hands.
