a feature-length adaptation of the Midgar gym where Cloud has to do all of those janky-ass squats in Final Fantasy VII, except it's about a los angeles health spa that's haunted by a ghost whose killing methods are maybe a *little too* Holocaust-coded for comfort. a guy rejects a hot girl in spandex by telling her "I'm Beta, and you're VHS," which is a fascinating line because both parts of it have come to mean the opposite of their intention. one of the credited screenwriters is named Mitch Paradise. a great use of Tubi.
This is exactly what I needed. Sometimes I get really wrapped up with work and my movie watching suffers. I start to forget who I am and it becomes a this depressing spiral. 'Death Spa' reset my battery. It hits all of the sweet spots. Effervescent beams. Just just soak it up like a girl in a high wasted bikini absorbing UV rays from a hot pink tanning bed. This is as close to the sensation that 'Dr. Caligari' left me with as any movie ever has. This was a pretty fucking zen.
Death Spa follows the chaotic events at a high-tech Los Angeles health club plagued by a series of bizarre supernatural murders and malfunctioning equipment.
Death Spa was directed by Michael Fischa in 1988, known for his work in low-budget genre cinema of the era.
