ONLY CHOW FORGIVESA toxic white-hot dose of unrepentant sleaze and ecstatic violence, loaded till it nearly tips over with absurdly Freudian psychosexual bullshit and phallic imagery dusted with misogyny and homophobia. Shot on location in sticky humid Bangkok, sweating primary blues and reds. A triumph of righteous badass masculinity over impotent fear.

Takes Ringo Lam's distinctly-uncontrollable third-act conflict and makes the whole movie like that. Such explosive energy prevents a coherent matrix of character motivations to build-up to one final spark, but unlike his other films that is not the goal here: he just wants to "make a film with a style no one could put a finger on." He succeeds. Full Contact escapes easy categorization precisely because it sometimes doesn't even feel like a film insomuch as it is: an incredibly-elaborate music video; an exercise in shooting prop guns; an excuse to blow up cars just laying around; an advertisement for butterfly knives. It becomes more an assemblage of moments glued together by the rule of cool than it does an actual narrative, and yet it somehow just works because no matter how ridiculously awesome the moment is now you know it'll somehow one-up it within fifteen minutes.May very well be the most 80's dude-bro movie ever made.
What a picture. Action and violence to pulverize your brain. Hateful and disgusting in the best ways. Anything can happen in this movie. Ringo doesn't give a fuck.
