Life seems pretty normal at the Forensics Division. Ippei's canine partner, Oliver, appears to him as a womanizing middle-aged drunk in a dog suit, but that's nothing new. However, when "Super Volunteer" Konishi vanishes, the investigation pulls them into a bizarre mystery. Joined by Supervisor Hagoromo, Ippei and Yukina follow Konishi's trail, Urushibara uncovers a family secret, and former handler Mizoguchi stumbles upon a takoyaki-infested town and a tiny fairy man. All while mysterious red doors keep appearing… Something is obviously deeply wrong. Can the team find Konishi and save him from unseen forces before chaos consumes them all?

Odagiri is hard to pin down, both as an actor and a director. He has a serious side, but also a weird and quirky one. This film plays into the latter. It's a weird, absurd, and surreal comedy that ventures off in many directions, and still makes zero sense when things finally converge again. But the presentation is stylish, the cast is superior, and the comedy is genuinely funny. It's one of those films that's nearly impossible to capture in words, it's much better to simply experience it.
Gosh!! is a fitting title because it summarizes my reaction for this movie. It started somewhat interesting but lost me very quickly and became impossible to follow towards the end. The humour didn't work for me at all. It had it's good moments in the beginning, but that couldn't save Gosh!! from being a total drag.Not the best beginning of the 2026 Camera Japan Festival, but with 15 films to go, I have hope that it will get better from here.
