This was my most anticipated of my Tiff viewing week, and it certainly did not disappoint. This movie shows so much that only makes sense to those who have atypical ways of processing social interactions and cues. There are a plethora of scenes that just happen and are weird and different but it conveys that this is the only way our character can navigate through society. Joshua Griffin is actually incredible at embodying this piece and he really brings to life little traits that make this feel like a lived experience. There is a scene of two characters embracing in a way that I connected with and I felt so emotionally struck by it. Will absolutely be keeping my eye out for more productions from these individuals.
It’s very rare to see the autistic experience captured on screen in such a raw, real, and relatable form. As an individual, it showed me that I’m not alone in this. Especially adding the gay experience into the narrative, I have never felt so seen. It’s amazing that a film of this subject matter can be shown on a stage like TIFF. It makes me very proud to be in this industry. If you’re in Toronto, for TIFF or in general, go see this. It’s a beautiful film.
