I don’t care what they say I won’t stay in a world without love. A somewhat chronologically told but well-detailed doc about Peter Asher, lots of info about how he started as a singer and went on to be a producer for some of the top talent. All of the music brought back memories and just tugged at the heart.Steve Martin starts off saying everybody has heard of Peter Asher but nobody knows what he did.Eric Idle says he’s a successful popstar, record company executive, producer, manager.Peter Asher's father was Dr. Richard Asher. He was an eminent British endocrinologist and physician who coined the term Munchausen syndrome in 1951 to describe patients who fake illnesses or self-harm for attention.Around 1963, Peter & Gordon we part of the British Invasion that included groups like The Beatles, Lulu, The Rolling Stones, Herman’s Hermits, Chad & Jeremy, Dave Clark 5, Freddie and the Dreamers, The Hollies, The AnimalsJames Taylor was the first U.S./international artist signed to the Beatles’ Apple Records label. He auditioned for Paul McCartney and George Harrison, and signed on in 1968 with Peter as producer. Peter then brought Carole King into the mix.Everybody who was ever in the LA music scene back then showed up at the Troubadour.Peter related that Linda Ronstadt was known to be difficult to work with, but he didn’t think so at all. He felt that others would just tell her to not worry her pretty little head and mostly not listen to her. No one was giving Linda credit for being brilliant.I never expected an Austin Powers connection. Oh behave. LOL

So in addition to being out of my mind happy while watching this and learning about my emotional support music, probably the best bit is Eric Idle explaining that due to World War II it was pretty normal not to talk about your dad's suicide while he and Peter Asher fondle a loaf of bread in a kitchen

"Peter Asher is more than an adjunct to history: He’s a prime motivator to a boggling number of pop culture events."The full review can be found at "The New York Sun": www.nysun.com/article/a-beatles-insider-who-remains-here-there-and-everywhere
