PRIMA FACIE is a harrowing sexual assault courtroom drama led by a mesmerizing Cynthia Erivo, who plays a successful defense barrister suddenly forced to take the stand in her own case against one of her colleagues. Erivo is the primary reason to seek out this otherwise blandly constructed adaptation, delivering a performance of enormous emotion and conviction. Unfortunately, the film feels better suited for television than the big screen due to its bland visuals and overall construction. There’s some clever use of inner monologue to heighten the tension and illuminate her internal conflict, but beyond Erivo’s powerful performance, there’s just not enough here to make this stage-to-screen adaptation feel essential.Check out our full review on NextBestPicture.com here
