It'd be great if American films did what was accomplished here: just cut together the absolute coolest sequences and imagery from contemporary franchises, re-score them with a completely different sound, use eerie voiceover as the stitching and reissue with unrelated titles. Fuck coherence, we want sick vibes.Mission: Impossible 6 + 7 = Spymaster's RevengeJohn Wick 3 + 4 = Gun MajestyTransformers 3 + 5 = King Arthur's Moon LandingPrometheus + Aliens = Nightbitch
"Your ... technique ... is ... magnificent."Dubbing a movie into English from another language is usually an inherently artless process, sloppy and smelling vaguely of illiteracy. This is a completely different animal though, transmuting a couple of Lone Wolf & Cub movies into a streamlined pop-art killing machine, with murderous synths and buckets and buckets of beautiful bright red blood. Mythic.
A disgraced samurai travels across the Japanese countryside with his young son while hunting down the ninja assassins sent by a paranoid ruler.
It was directed by Robert Houston and Kenji Misumi, released in 1980 as a condensed English-dubbed adaptation of Japanese jidaigeki films.
Shogun Assassin did not capture major festival prizes upon release, but it achieved enduring cult status and heavily influenced later hip-hop culture.
