I hear Catholicism will do that to you.
Joins the ranks of Christmas Evil as one of the wonderfully tasteless pieces of trash cinema explicitly designed to offend Christians, in this case by developing a ludicrous sex-and-death slasher premise around all the iconography of Christmas. It has exactly one joke (what if the commercial image of Santa was a ruthlessly gory vessel for the unhealthy sexual attitudes and punishment fetishes of religious prudes?) that it presses over and over again but I'm sorry it's a good joke. I still cackle every single time I get to the scene where the cop just straight up guns Santa down in front of a bunch of orphans, spraying his blood all over them. We later find out this was actually the local priest and not the sexually repressed, violently traumatized teenage orphan serial killer Santa (inspired to do so because he saw a mugger dressed as Santa murder his parents and associates sex with evil due to his fundamentalist upbringing by strict nuns) that is out and about gruesomely decapitating sledders, strangling rapists with Christmas lights, and hoisting teenagers onto mounted reindeer antlers Texas Chainsaw meat hook style, turning everyone into festive corpse ornaments while screaming "NAUGHTY!" and PUNISH!" Weirdly enough it actually takes more time than you'd think to build a "coherent" psychological foundation for how a Billy could be created, but that doesn't stop him from also just being an icky excuse to deliver the gleefully gross goods. Fun movie, if like me you are a pyscho.Full discussion on episode 47 of my podcast SLEAZOIDS.

The film did not win major traditional awards, instead achieving notoriety and a lasting cult following due to the intense public controversy surrounding its marketing and release.
