Lets not fool ourselves here - Street Fighter is a piece of shit.But I'll be damned if time isn't being kind to this car crash. Watching it as a straight comedy last night in a packed cinema, it was a hoot.Things that are bad about Street Fighter = Everything.Things that are amazing in Street Fighter =- Raul Julia's straight delivery of a proposterous script.- Van Damme's inspirational call to arms.- Van Damme calling Bison a dick head.- Bison's clown painting.- Bison's horseback painting.- Everything Zangief - EVERYTHING. The guy is dynamite.- Dr Dhalsim's vanishing hair.- Blanka maintaining his humanity watching video's of Dolphins and Puppy's.- Van Damme telling a polititian that he's lost his balls.- Bison's Arcade Controller.- E.Honda & Zangief's slow motion fight with overdubbed Godzilla sound effects.The list could easily go on. This movie is a riot.

[cut to soldier smiling] I'm going to get on my boat [cut to soldier nodding] and I'm going up river and I'm going to kick that son of a bitch Bison's ass so hard [cut to soldier smiling] that the next Bison-wannabe is gonna feel it! That right there is the best scene of an inspirational speech ever put to film.I don't know how to describe this movie. Campy? Dated? Surreal? It's so ridiculous that it avoids any sort of classification. It's just Street Fighter. I'm guessing it's slightly self-aware because if not, this is too much of an oddity of a film. But it's highly entertaining and Van Damme is blond so there's lots of good stuff in here somewhere. Best character: Zangief. He doesn't have many lines but when he opens that amazing mouth of his I'm having a hard time breathing regularly. He's hilarious, and that is intended. Lots of fun this one.
