Wajda going meta with loss and grief and even pulls off a little bit of Panahi..
One of Wajda's last pictures is a metafictional take on the storytelling methods known from Jafar Panahi's The Mirror. Experimental, emotional and intimately autobiographical for the lead actress Krystyna Janda, Sweet Rush proves to be one of Wajda's best - and definitely the most underrated. Keep an eye on a few visual references to great Edward Hopper too, with the most prominent one present on the poster.
Intimations of mortality, does that make it late-career for Mr. Wajda? I reckon. I got nothing.
Sweet Rush follows a middle-aged woman in post-war Poland who develops a bittersweet attraction to a young worker, interwoven with behind-the-scenes footage and reflections on real-life grief from the lead actress and director.
Sweet Rush was directed by veteran Polish filmmaker Andrzej Wajda in 2009.
Yes, it won the Alfred Bauer Prize at the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival.
