Tampopo

タンポポ

An acclaimed, rewatchable comedy.

In this humorous paean to the joys of food, a pair of truck drivers happen onto a decrepit roadside shop selling ramen noodles. The widowed owner, Tampopo, begs them to help her turn her establishment into a paragon of the "art of noodle-soup making". Interspersed are satirical vignettes about the importance of food to different aspects of human life.

wow!!!! loved this movie so immediately– delicate and focused in a way that really highlights the directing, but also just so unabashedly goofy in a way so many movies are afraid to be!! can't get over two specific scenes that are just about highlighting the art of paying attention, which i think is my new favorite thing in film. seeing attention and focus portrayed always makes my heart feel warm. this is like a Monty Python movie, with a beautiful central story that would be seen as pretentious if not specifically made to celebrate the amateur nature of it all. lot of focus placed on the weird horny scenes, and for good reason, but every little side story was so fun to me i almost wanna ignore the egg swap entirely. i cackled so loudly at the peach/grocery scene, something that felt so strangely Lynchian and out of left field (in a movie that entirely takes place out of left field.) the circle wipes made me scream every single time it happened. i loved it. love love loved it! did shrooms before watching but trust me, the love is all Tampopo! My first child shall be named Tampopo! (Tompopo if it's a boy!)
