All style and no s̶u̶b̶s̶t̶a̶n̶c̶e̶ Lam Ching-Ying. Well, that's not entirely true. Lam is in this, but mostly in the opening sequence and in the third act. He also doesn't put in a whole lot of effort here. He was probably starting to get annoyed that he kept getting typecast as the supernatural-fighting monk. At least Wu Ma gives an energetic performance, walking around with a fake Amish beard, being all silly. Wu also directs the movie. This a pretty unremarkable fantasy flick, but it contains some fun Kung Fu action. Plus it's a very stylish movie. The colours were popping off the screen, even in my subpar YouTube rip.The Chinese Ghostbuster will probably receive a higher rating from me if it ever gets cleaned up/remastered.
