Love the direction, opening/closing set pieces, and clever twist this Spanish giallo thriller has to offer. The Corruption of Chris Miller is absolutely worth checking out for deep dive gialli fans who feel like they’ve bled the well dry sifting through late 70’s sleazeball porn entries and want something more akin to the late 60’s pre trope heavy genre offerings. This thing rips!
Is it not the greatest thing to still be able to discover a previously unknown genre movie that turns out to be amazing?! Well, thanks to companies like Vinegar Syndrome, we get to do just that and I am forever grateful! This was just terrific. Maybe some of that has to do with having never heard of it until VinSyn releases it, but then maybe not because my ADD ass was pretty much all in for the whole time. Lots of twists, a beautiful mansion, shady ass females, a cute guy who never wears his shirt, constant rain, it’s all here and I loved it! Marisol is so beautiful and she somehow manages to look completely innocent and guilty as sin at the same time which makes her the perfect fit for the role of Chris Miller.I love how you aren’t really sure about things until the end and even thenyoi still aren’t 100% confident on who’s playing who and the way the camera just lingers on that final shot giving you just a little bit too much time to question the everything is honestly some directorial genius.Bravo Vinegar Syndrome, you’ve hit it fucking straight out of the park and into the river again, you beautiful wonderful company.
56th Review for The Collab Weekly Movie WatchAn intriguing psychological thriller in which you never know where the film is headed, which helps to keep you immersed in the story. It's also a picture that continuously toys with different genres; at first, I thought the film would be a giallo, but as the film goes, it turns into this sort of Les Diaboliques, where you have this daughter who was raped by someone close to her and now she's taking it out on her mother, and you have this sick conflict between mother and daughter, while a serial killer is on the loose wreaking havoc.Jean Seberg and Marisol are fantastic as this mother-daughter combo, both displaying exceptional acting abilities, particularly in conveying the dark aspect of these characters. With fantastic zoom ins and quick cuts that feel like you're being smothered by these traumatic memories, the cinematography and editing are very much of their time. And the glossy cinematography that apparently characterised many of these horror films at the time gives the film the impression of being trapped in a dream, or rather a nightmare. All in all, though it does get little repetitive at times, and some of the deaths are directed and played in a funny way, such as the one on the staircase, though the killing tool was pretty cool, and it looks like something out of a giallo. In any case, fans of the genre may have a good time.TODAY SCHEDULEThe Corruption of Chris MillerChampagneGreetingsDragon Ball Super: Super Hero
