A visual documentary by Borowczyk, regarding the serbian painter Popovic Ljuba.
A late short made just before Behind Convent Walls, this is a messy, grungy, murky, grainy documentary about the Serbian surrealist painter Ljubomir Popović, silent apart from its Wagner soundtrack. Sometimes the visual style causes eye-strain, but then it sucker-punches you by creating something oddly beautiful and memorable out of a banal shot of Popović washing his hands or swishing some turpentine around in a jar. His painting technique is interesting to watch - all raggedy lines and fingers smearing highlights in - and I liked what we saw of his paintings. The woman who takes a look at them at the end of the film seems to be utterly bored, though.
It is a short documentary profiling Serb surrealist painter Ljubomir Popović as he creates his intricate, erotic canvases in his studio.
It was directed by Polish filmmaker Walerian Borowczyk in 1977.
