Pretty flat and amateurish in all the ways you'd expect of a movie made simply because two of the best make-up/VFX artists of the 80s wanted to fuck around (and a producer they impressed was game enough to burn money letting them do it), but as far as the insane attempt here to turn genuinely transgressive horror satires like Robocop, Re-animator and Brain Damage into Ninja Turtles or an episode of Power Rangers goes? More successful than it probably should be. Idk. Lots of goop and whooshing. I had fun. Great gag in here with Linnea Quigley that feels like a deleted scene from Gremlins 2. It's tough to MacGyver your way through this sci-fi action film but I'm gonna try. I love that it's not just a Star Wars opening but a convoluted one that left you with more preponderance of how did these special infused humans(Zoanoids) to be super slaves then make this armour that they don't know how to work. It's all sorts of zany action that just leads to a rubber suited battle between humans and these Zoanlords. It's winking and can recommend with some bevies and friends cause it's definitely comedic with it's action. All I can say is really watch it for Screaming Mad George's effects and maybe Mark Hamill playing a hard drizziled detective, trying to do good. So check it out for it's zany effects that reminded me of "The Power Rangers" with some recognizable character actors.
A college student discovers an alien device that merges with his body, transforming him into a superhuman warrior hunted by a sinister corporation.
It was co-directed by Steve Wang and Screaming Mad George in 1991, celebrated for their pioneering practical creature makeup.
