- Qué pena que no pudiésemos terminar la comedia que estábamos viendo anoche- Era un melodrama
"what a pity that we couldn't finish the comedy last night!" - "actually it was a melodrama..."I mean how could I not love a movie that checks a couple of my own chapters of life: living in a theatre at night, constantly pumping favourites; hosting social gatherings there, up to the point to let a homeless man have a place to stay for a night or two (shoutout to prof. Siswanto! RIP).fantastic closing film for a film festival, just like cinemas, the place for which a movie like this is decidedly made. starts cute like many of those cinephile meta works from Latin America, but luckily leaves this status of pure quirks in order to integrate way more ideas, especially on the social forefront. the movie theatre as place of escape, place to understand oneself & the environment, to understand humans, but mainly understand cinema & its possibilities. the movie theatre as retreat, refuge & safe haven, for one's own soul to heal but also for communities that live outside of the mainstream. a film that starts out with an adorable charm, but follows suit with more meat, up to elements of melodrama & political laconia. touched my heart by the end, something I didn't expect from a small taciturn gem like this.~ Hamburg 34 ~
En La noche está marchándose ya, el cine es lo que el cine es cada vez menos, y que no queremos que deje de ser: un refugio comunitario.
After losing his job at a municipal film club, a projectionist becomes the night watchman and secretly lives inside the cinema, finding community and refuge among the films.
The film was directed by Ramiro Sonzini and Ezequiel Salinas in 2025, marking an Argentinian debut feature about art, solidarity, and crisis.
