Harry Lehman is an aging pickpocket who plies his trade with ever-diminishing returns in a drastically changed New York. Wallets stuffed with cash have been replaced by easily cancelled credit cards, and Harry struggles to make ends meet as he cares for his disabled wife, Rosie. When he unwittingly purloins and fences a valuable USB stick, Harry finds himself in a race against time to return the loot or face the rage of a vengeful crime family.

a film in vivid conversation with The Loneliest Man in Town - two movies, one cup: the downfall of two proud, distinct, charismatic cities in the face of the ever consuming monster with the big C. two old codgers never willing in making this shift into the new digital age, dancing the slow boogie, looking the face of 0s and 1s nonchalant in the face. It's Turturro's film, his fingerprints are all over this wallet. it's a small-time crook comedy; jazzy, playful, a little boomer-ish. the film shortly transcends into another sphere when Johnny does the obligatory absent father/angry daughter talk - reminding me, also in its decidedly New Yorkness of The Rourke/Wood pairing in The Wrestler - Tatiana Maslany & Turturro have a fine, deeply sad rendezvous, letting you feel the memorabilia of the otherwise cool-hand-lucky protagonist for once. the Gen Z here is not a sophisticated, open-minded, aware & awake, but a greedy, disrespectful, zero fucks giving one. Noah Segan's film has no hope for the future. Turturro's man with honor is a dying breed and no one following suit will save this god forsaken world. The NYC Pickpocket geezer might tell you this with a twinkle in his eye, but he's dead serious about the message.
