*discussion of the final scene below*In the closing moments there's a slow zoom on the lead character in this film, who is a personification of the real life Chantal Akerman, a baby in her arms, cigarette in her mouth, and a woman dancing off frame to a song that is relaying events that happened in the film. Akerman stares at the typewriter on her desk with the child in her embrace. I can't help but feel this is Akerman giving herself a happy ending she never knew in her real life. And I am devastated once more.

my thing with performance driven films is how filmmakers create the conditions for actors to thrive there's usually a sometimes unnecessary emphasis on dialogue but the concern for space movement and objects here is very distinct a subtle enhancement that's giving the film it's rhythm and Sylvie Testud is dancing
