if you can't get Wuthering Heights you'll take the next best thing I guess. a stormy theatre stage play set on a northern sea island, including Dogville-a-like stage building, and lines spoken clearer and more accurate than your german teacher hammered them into you in pronunciation class.once you let the material get closer to you, Stänicke's ice cold setup has one direction that soon reveals itself, and his period piece follows through until the bitter end. it's not exactly subtle or new what is told here - in the essence: narrow minded communities are build on lies and denial - but for having you thrown into such a deeply german stiffener the film ends on a pretty well-rounded decrescendo.
A man returns to his home village on a remote island after fourteen years away, prompting the close-knit community to put him on trial to verify his identity.
